Commuting
There is no single 'Kannapolis to Charlotte' time. It depends on where you start, where you're going and when.
Driving
I-85 is the main route toward Charlotte and toward Salisbury and the Triad. Uptown Charlotte, the airport and University City are different destinations with different routes. Test your actual commute at your actual hours — mapping tools with departure-time settings help.
Light rail
The LYNX Blue Line does not reach Kannapolis. Some commuters drive to a Charlotte-area park-and-ride; account for that drive and parking.
Testing a commute before you move
- Drive the route at the hour you'll actually travel, in both directions.
- Try the trip on a ballpark event night if you'll pass downtown.
- If you'll use a park-and-ride, add the drive and parking time to the total.
- For occasional trips, compare the intercity train with driving.
